On 19th of May 2022 SVOL Georgia and Armenia delegations met in Yerevan for a CP volunteering workshop. few Garni and Mets Parni volunteers joined the workshop to share with the group their own lessons learned as volunteers.
Three different thematic related to CP volunteering have been discussed in the following order:
- Role of municipalities
- Affiliation of volunteers
- Role of Civil Protection authorities
A last session was dedicated for discussing the Country Action Plan, final deliverable of SVOL project.
The issue of safety for the Volunteer Fire Rescue Groups of Armenia, who are first responders, was central in the discussion between the representatives of the Emergency Management Service of Georgia and their counterparts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia.
The role of municipalities was also a core topic in the discussion. Municipalities were considered by all participants as the main partner to establish CP volunteer groups and keep them sustainable on the long term. It is clearly one of the main lessons learned of SVOL project.
Among many other aspects addressed during the workshop the importance of advocating for volunteering among local population was also very much discussed. The volunteers of Garni and Mets Parni shared their experience in this regard as they already noticed significant change among local population towards the idea of volunteering.
