On 16th of May 2022 a simulation exercise has been organized in Borjomi by Emergency Management Service of Georgia, the Georgian Red Cross Society with support of Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe local Municipalities.
The purpose of the exercise was to have the Joint Volunteer Teams (40 volunteers) of Borjomi and Akhaltsikhe to respond to a disaster, earthquake and forest fire, under supervision of EMS-G firefighters and GRCS FA/PSS focal points.
The different steps for deployment and response have been included in the exercise:
- Alerting the volunteers by phone calls
- Deploying volunteers to the site of emergency by bus
- Supporting EMS-G firefighters for deploying firefighting material on site
- Making mineralized strip during forest fires using mechanical tools and wetting with water backpacks
- Rescuing injured persons and transporting them to safe zone
- Providing First Aid and Psychosocial support to victims in safe zone
The exercise was followed by a technical debriefing organised by the EMS-G officers and GRCS FA/PSS focal points.
The Austrian Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Advisor, Resilient Advisors Network Technical Advisor and Austrian Red Cross Project Manager were present as observers.
